This blog is a journal of my continuing journey to become a better artist while keeping the fun in art making. I've posted class assignments, personal, and professional work. In every piece of art I make, no matter whether the goal is academic, personal, or monetary, this blog is a reminder to myself to make sure I always enjoy the process. After all, why should any of us bother pursuing such a hard field to get into as art, if we're not having fun with it!

Sweetness on the Seas
I started this comic as a suggestion by my former boss Mez to practice my comic book skills. I planned to just make a one-shot 7 page piece but ended up liking the characters and started to continue the story with page 8. The change in color scheme for page 8 is, of course very deliberate- my intent being to carry a particular color scheme through a "chapter" so since the second part is introducing the characters to the ship and taking them out to sea I wanted to switch to a more nautical color scheme to contrast from the browns used on land. I'm planning on designing a website for it and seeing if it can take off as a webcomic. I had reformatted it and submitted it to zuda.com but it was formally rejected (after 3 months of waiting) last week. Must have been too sweet for them! ;)

Women, Vote.
I just entered aniboom's History Channel competition. They asked for a story board or rough first cut of animation to go along with some famous speeches. I chose an excerpt from the Susan B. Anthony Trial and got as far as color storyboards. I'm amazed I even had time for that much with my move to SF and everything. Tomorrow is my first day of classes at AAU!!!

Road Trip
After being on the road for 3 or 4 days the yellow median line started to run streaks into my brain, I went a little crazy and started compositing a fashion show of characters inspired by the open road... I drew 6 figures while riding in the car and then gave up. All I can say is, it's good to be home, off the road, and not living in Wyoming.

painting on cel...
A few days ago I found a box I had been missing with some of my art in it and some half-painted as well as blank animation cels so I pulled out my set of cel paints and decided to have some "fun." All I have to say now is 2 things: 1- while I thought that I coulnd't possibily give more respect to traditional animators who worked on movies like "Sleeping Beauty" than I already did, my respect has been instantly increased by fixty times, 2- THANK GOD FOR COMPUTERS!
